Charlotte Ruth Joyce and Richard James Joyce, Samuel’s mum and dad, are buried together in the churchyard of St Martins, Kirk Levington. The headstone, which has words chosen by Charlotte for Richard, then by us for her, reads:
“Treasured memories of Richard James Joyce a much loved Husband, Father, Son and Brother, Died 13th January 2013 Aged 40 years. A kind and faithful man
and his wife Charlotte Ruth, Died 17th January 2014 Aged 36 years, A rare and precious jewel. Secure and safe in God.
Devoted Parents of Samuel”
You will also see the two copper leaves in this picture, Samuel’s copies of those which are on the memorial tree at St Gemma’s Hospice Leeds, where Richard died.
