The Polymer IRC brings skills and resources in macromolecular science and technology by bringing the leading academic institutions of the Universities of Leeds, Bradford,Durham and Sheffield together. It facilitates the building of effective multidisciplinary teams on the basis of scientific and technological requirements, rather than on the basis of geographical location. Core-science and industrial collaboration are of equal importance.

Bonds between institutions have been formed and strengthened over almost twenty years through collaborative projects funded by research councils and industry.
